I'm currently sitting in my hotel room with my bandmates in Toledo, Ohio. We're about halfway through our drive to Omaha to meet Cursive and start our tour with them. I really enjoy long drive days. Driving for me, is the best way to clear my mind. There is something so soothing about driving the van and listening to music with my friends. I feel so safe. Please comment on some stuff to listen to, I’d love to check it out.
Anyway, we have a bunch of exciting stuff to share. We have a new song out today called “Digging a Pond” that we recorded at Miner Street Recording in Fishtown. We have a long history with Miner Street so it was really special to get to go back there and record a song with the owners Brian and Amy. I was so happy to have Ashley Arnwine play drums on this song. She is such an incredible musician and it was such an honor to work on a song with her. My ride-or-die Liz also plays on this one. I love playing music with Liz. Whether it’s in Gladie or her band Lippy singing with Liz is such a great feeling.
Other exciting news!!! After this Cursive tour, we’re flying out to Oakland, California to record our next album with Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden. My wonderful friend Jeff Rosenstock is producing it. I’m so excited about this experience, it’s hard to put into words. I’ve been playing music for a long time at this point and have never “gone somewhere” to record.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how valuable encouragement is. Jeff has been one of the most musically encouraging friends I’ve ever had. After I sent him the demos for this new record he texted me and asked if he could produce it. I was so honored. I really look up to Jeff and Christine. The way they navigate music has been a real inspiration to me. They do things however the fuck they want and it’s so sick to watch. Also, their whole band and crew are just hilarious and earnest. I’ve often felt really out of place in the music world but not with them. All this to say I’m so excited for this record. The songs feel like the most honest I’ve ever written.
Listening to lately: I can’t stop listening to the new Kim Deal singles. I can’t wait for her full record to come out at the end of November.
Reading Lately: Togethering by Rose
Zinnia. Rose is a friend of mine I’ve played in a wedding band with. She is one of my favorite poets. She studied with Ross Gay who’s one of my favorite current writers. Highly recommend ordering her new book.

In teems of things to listen to, I really like the Time Crisis podcast and One Song as well. Both are really interesting and Time Crisis is laugh out loud hysterical.
absolutely adore the new track! such a good blend of ups and downs, that riff in the beginning, the noisey bit in the middle, and so many perfect lines ugh. can't wait to listen like 30 more times.
