I was alone watching you at the Fillmore. Screaming “can you feel it in your knees?” with tears running down my face is something I think about all the time! This is such a great piece! I love being a fan! AHH!

This was beautiful to read. A lot from this piece resonated with me, and I appreciated you sharing Ocean’s words on cynicism vs. earnestness — amongst the rest of the wonderful words. I tell people all the time how much I borrow from my inspirations and how much juice & energy I get from the art that moves me at my core; so the idea of being a “fan,” and the idea that art is a conversation between the artist and the recipient — the “fan” — is not only important, but necessary!

Which is funny commenting this here, because I find it charming, beautiful, and reassuring to see a songwriter I’ve been a fan of for several years approaching their influences in a similar way as me. Intertextuality and conscious / unconscious influences fill the page for a lot of creatives.

I’m in acting school now (balancing that and a full-time job has felt like a blitz at times), but I’ve been trying to make art a more integral part of my life. Gladie and Cayetana have underscored many writing sessions in my life, and while I’m not making it soon, there’s still an idea I have that is scored with “Even At Your Easel.” Hoping I get to do that one day.

Anyway, from one corner of the internet to the other, thank you for sharing this!
